Jo Dixon: An Indian Journey

4 – 21 May 2020 Opening hours: 09:00–17:00 Monday–Friday, closed Saturday & Sunday)

Jo Dixon is a figurative artist and a member of both the South West Academy of Fine and Applied Arts and the Society of Women Artists. Listed in ‘The Dictionary of Artists in Britain since 1945’, she has won numerous awards and exhibited throughout the UK. After training at Hammersmith College of Art, Jo worked as an art teacher in central London before moving to Devon, where she maintains her studio today. She works mainly with oils and charcoal and her travels through India, North Africa and the Far East have inspired much of her art.

Jo’s latest exhibition is a collection of paintings from recent visits to India. The characters in her paintings reveal a dignity and depth of spirituality which appears biblical in nature – not surprising perhaps as many of the villages have remained virtually unchanged for centuries. She reveals a society which may be poor in Western terms but retains and intrisic beauty which is dignified and spiritual.
